Description
Joseph J. Pulitzer, known for the journalism prizes that bear his name, is an inspirational American success story that takes on even more relevance today. A penniless, Hungarian-Jewish immigrant, Pulitzer’s groundbreaking and trend-setting newspaper The World became known as “The Friend of the People.” He advocated for the poor and exposed corruption, despite President Teddy Roosevelt’s attempts to discredit and imprison him. As our First Amendment rights are being challenged, it is imperative we remember Pulitzer’s heroic battles for the freedom of the press.
